My position as Research Director and Cotton Extension Program Leader is a 60% extension and 40% research appointment. Major responsibilities are to work with the Cotton Team to develop and conduct extension and applied research programs to inform Oklahoma producers as to best management practices for cotton production. We conduct cotton variety performance and applied research trials as necessary; develop educational materials relating to the information; and disseminate it to growers and extension personnel by all appropriate means. An important function is serving as an information and materials source for area agronomy agents and Extension personnel in the state. We work cooperatively with agronomists, area and county extension personnel, research scientists, growers, cotton organizations, processors, and industry representatives as necessary to carry out assigned duties and to solve cropping problems via applied research experiments and demonstrations.

Extension personnel at the Southwest Research and Extension Center publish a newsletter entitled “Cotton Comments” that is generated at key times during the growing season. This newsletter as well as other Extension publications and reports can be downloaded at: cotton.okstate.edu or at www.ntokcotton.org
