Sergio Abit

Dr. Abit focuses primarily in Soil Science teaching and is the Undergraduate Student Coordinator. He is also a member of the Environmental Science Program Steering Committee.

Dr. Abit earned a B.S. degree in Agriculture from the Visayas State University (VSU) in 1996. He joined the Department of Agronomy and Soil Science at VSU in 2001 as member of its teaching faculty. Sergio then studied Soil Science at the North Carolina State University earning an M.S. in 2005 and Ph.D. in 2009. Dr. Abit also worked as research soil scientist for the USDA-ARS in Bowling Green, KY before joining the faculty in the Plant and Soil Sciences Department at the Oklahoma State University. Dr. Abit focuses primarily in Soil Science teaching and is the Undergraduate Student Coordinator. He is also a member of the Environmental Science Program Steering Committee.

Dr. Abit teaches the following courses: Fundamentals of Soil Science (SOIL 2124), Environmental Soil Science (SOIL 4363/ENVR 4363), Soil and Water Conservation (SOIL 4463), Dynamics of Wetland, Forest and Rangeland Soils (SOIL 4563), Animal Waste Management (SOIL 4913/ENVR  4913- team-taught with Dr. Chad Penn), Professional Development Colloquium, and Professional Internship (PLNT 4080).

Dr. Abit will also teach a new course, Land Life and the Environment (SOIL 1113), in the Fall Semester of 2015.

He also has extension responsibilities in the area of soil based onsite wastewater treatment.
