Wheat breeder Brett Carver named OSU Sarkeys Distiguished Professor
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State University’s Brett Carver has been named the 2009 recipient of the Sarkeys Distinguished Professor Award by the OSU Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

The Sarkeys award is based on outstanding contributions to agriculture through teaching, research or extension efforts. The award was established by the Sarkeys Foundation in 1980 to honor Elmo Baumann, an agronomist who worked with the foundation after his retirement from OSU. ...more

Plant and Soil Sciences as a Career?

These are some hard times and sending a young man or woman off to college can be a major expense with no real guarantees of job placement after graduation. Many times, graduating high school seniors still have not made up their mind as to a career choice. As mentors to these young people, I would like to suggest that you inform them of the excellent career opportunities with a degree in Plant and Soil Science. At a recent meeting at the Department of Plant and Soil Science, Dr. Sarah Lancaster gave an excellent presentation on career opportunities, scholarships and placement of Plant and Soil Science graduates. more...
