Randy Boman honored by Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources honored three standout leaders with the Gerald W. Thomas Outstanding Agriculturalist Award during its 89th annual Pig Roast at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The annual outstanding agriculturalist awards recognize individuals for contributions to various areas of agriculture. Connie Estes-Shelton receives Staff of Life Award

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma Wheat Commission presented the “Staff of Life” award to Connie Estes-Shelton last week at the Junior Wheat Show banquet. Connie Shelton is the Senior Agriculturist at the Oklahoma State University Food and Agricultural Products Center. The Oklahoma Wheat Commission Board felt it was important to award our top honor to Shelton who has been an integral part of the State 4-H and FFA Junior Wheat Show for many years. She has also been key to the work being focused on in regards to end quality use for milling and baking characteristics targeted in the OSU Wheat Variety Program. She has worked in the wheat industry as well as in the cotton industries with her main focus the past 25 years being the Lab Director for testing and analysis on end use quality characteristics for the OSU wheat breeding program. ...more

 

 

 

 

 

2016 Sarkeys Award recipient Liuling Yan

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State University’s Liuling Yan has been named the 2016 recipient of the Sarkeys Distinguished Professor Award by the OSU Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The Sarkeys award is based on outstanding contributions to agriculture through teaching, research or extension efforts. The award was established by the Sarkeys Foundation in 1980 to honor Elmo Baumann, an agronomist who worked with the foundation after his retirement from OSU. “An expert in wheat molecular genetics and breeding, Dr. Yan has been instrumental in enabling OSU to remain at the forefront of technological advances in variety development, especially when it comes to grazing tolerance, which is of key importance to the many producers who use a dual-purpose grazing and milling wheat production system,” said Jeff Edwards, head of the department of plant and soil sciences. ...more

Merlin Schantz is an agricultural producer who utilizes very diverse cropping systems. He is committed to family farming and has integrated his children and their spouses into his farm operations and management. Schantz Farms produces field crops such as cotton, wheat, peanuts, and sorghum. 4-12-2016 - "2016 Professional Master Agronomist Award" Mark Gregory

Mark started his extension career as a County Extension Agent in McLennan County Texas with agriculture and 4-H responsibilities. He left that position to pursue a Master’s degree at Iowa State University. Mark joined OCES in 1985 as Area Extension Agronomist for the SE District, in Ada. He has also served as an Area Agronomy Specialist in Guymon, Cordell and Duncan. Mark moved to Duncan in 2001, where he remained until retirement in December 2015. Mark is known as a people person; enjoying relationships he has established over the years with producers, industry personnel and extension educators. He has served as president of the Oklahoma Association of County Agriculture Agents and has served as superintendent of the hay show at the Oklahoma State Fair for many years. ...more


4-12-2016 - "2016 Professional Master Agronomist Award" Dr. Tom Peeper

Dr. Thomas Peeper is a native of Apache Oklahoma. He received his MS from Oklahoma State University in 1969 and his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in 1975. Tom began his tenure with OSU in 1976 as the Small Grain Weed Science Extension Specialist. After 34 years of Service Dr. Peeper retired in 2010. During his time with OSU Dr. Peeper advised scores of graduate students who all went on to make great impacts on the industry. Prior to his retirement Dr. Peeper spear headed the Okanola project which established winter canola as an economically viable rotation option for winter wheat in the southern Great Plains.

 

 

4-12-2016 - "2016 Professional Master Agronomist Award" Chris Rice

2016 Professional Master Agronomist Chris RiceChris started working for OSU full time in 1980 under Dr. Jim Stritzke as a Senior Agriculturalist. He served in that capacity for 10 years. In 1990, he became Senior Station Superintendent at the Agronomy Research Station. He held that position until 2001 when he was named as Extension Area Agronomist for the SE District, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service. Chris retired on July 10, 2015 with 35 years of service to OSU and DASNR.
